What are mosquitoes?
Mosquitoes are common insects which are found outdoors. At present there are 3,500 species of mosquitoes in the world. There are 13 mosquito generals in United States of America. Mosquitoes have mouthparts which are adapted for piercing the skin of humans and animals. The males feed on nectar and plant juices while the females feed on blood meals of living beings. As far as the life cycle of any mosquito is considered, it consist of four stages namely: egg, larva, pupa and adult or imago. The first three stages are aquatic and last for 5-14 days. In its first stage the female mosquito lays her egg in still water which may be a lake, a natural reservoir or an artificial water container such as a plastic bucket, after this egg hatches to become larva which is followed by pupae. At last the adult comes out of pupa and lives for 4-8 weeks.
Mosquito Insect Types
There are three types of mosquito insects which are as follows:

Aedes: The floodwater is the essential source for hatching for aedes mosquitoes. They can fly up to the distance of 75 miles from their breeding sites. The common types of aedes are the yellow-fever mosquito (Aedes aegypti) and the Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus). They bite mammals at dawn and early evening.

Anopheles: These mosquitoes develop in fresh water. The most common type of anopheles is malaria mosquito (Anopheles quadrimaculatus). They can be responsible for spreading malaria in human beings.

Culex: They breed in quite standing water. The most common specie of this type is northern house mosquito (Culex pipiens). They are weak fliers and tend to live for only a few weeks during the summer months. They bite at dawn or after dusk.

As far as USA is concerned the mosquito insects are found in everywhere. This is due to the fact that the mosquito insect can easily develop even in dirt, fresh or still water.
