Insect Repellent
Why are outdoor insects so annoying?

Outdoor insects are more prevalent in the summer. In most cases insect bites are defensive in nature. Insects generally do not bite until they are provoked. The insects bite consists of saliva, protein and other harmful substances which may result in many allergic reactions. Sometimes these allergic reactions may become fatal. The bite area on the victim’s body is swells and becomes pinkish in color. Some major outdoor insects and related diseases are as follows:
- Bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets: Bites or stings from these species may cause serious reactions in people who are allergic to them.
- Mosquitoes: These species do not pose any serious danger most of the time but are very irritating and can sometimes act as vector organisms causing diseases like malaria and West Nile Virus. They are also known to spread diseases like yellow fever and dengue.
- Lice: Can be responsible for transmitting epidemics like relapsing fever.
- Sand Fly: Can be responsible for disease called Leishmaniasis.
- Ticks: These insects can transmit Lyme disease.
How are the Insects Repelled?
The insects can be repelled by using insecticides and DEET but our products are as effective as DEET, but DEET free, using only natural oils as insect repellents. The insect repellents can be applied to clothing, shoes, tents, and mosquito nets to increase the repulsion against outdoor insects. Most people use these two methods to repel insects:
- Use of DEET and insecticides: Insecticides like Permethrin can be used to repel insects. Permethrin is highly effective against ticks and mites, but at the same time is very harmful for humans and may prove to be poisonous for them.
- The chemical name of DEET is N, N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide or diethytoluamide in short. The molecular formula of DEET is C12H17NO. DEET repels mosquitoes, ticks, and other arthropods when applied to skin or clothing. DEET contains chemicals which make insects either die or make them unconscious. It has proven to be a decent mosquito repellent. The biggest disadvantage with DEET is that it is a toxic substance. One study shows that 56% of applied DEET penetrates the skin and 17% is absorbed in the bloodstream. Once this chemical enters the bloodstream it can cause many disorders in the body. It is unsafe for pets and children. It may cause side effects like slurred speech, muscle twitching, seizures and vomiting.
- Use of Natural Oil as Insect Repellent: Natural insect repelling oils are very effective against mosquitoes, deer ticks and other pests. Insects do not like the smell of certain oils used in our insect repellents. The biggest advantage of using natural oils as insect repellents is that it has no side effects. Our insect repellents can be applied as wristbands, bracelets, pinned on, hung or placed in any area. Moreover natural repellents use water as a carrier, as compared to alcohol which is used in DEET. This makes the natural repellents last longer. The natural insect repellents are safe to use for all ages and pets.
